SIFT Membership Meeting AgendaMar. 2, 2011• Call Meeting to Order• Introductions- Bob Hawke, Lori Eberling, Dawn Granberry, Lindsay Liedke, Molly Horwath, Sarah Reis, Cheryl Wood, Megan Lowe, Jill Braun• Secretary Report- Jill reviewed minutes from 11-1-10, A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept minutes as written.• Treasurer’s Report – Megan reviewed report a motion was made, seconded and passed to accept report.Per Capita payments for January 2011 have been paid. AFT- Michigan $1,923.60 AFT (National) $1,999.39*************************************************************Dues Deposited $8,757.00Checking Balance $36,290.34************************************February Per Capita payments to be paid:AFT- Michigan $1,940.40AFT (National) $2,016.84***********************************March 4th will be the final pay period of withholding dues, for those members using payroll deductions. • President’s Report o AFT updates- review website for details. Special education budget plan is to maintain current budget. Reduction of foundation allowance- $470 reduction for each student (gen ed.) Maintain funding for early childhood educationRight to Work bill- essentially means not having unions. States without unions have lower salaries and more injuries * Contact Legislator to voice opinion (if you would like contact information for your rep. please contact Jill Braun)Cut off for students at 22 instead of 26. State has a committee developed to work on addressing this issue and develop proactive solutions prior to waiting for legislation. o Survey results-53 out of 119 responded to survey. Most satisfied with current contract language. Topics to address- caseload sizes, prep. time, insurance, salary, paying for overloads on caseloads and benefits o March Leadership Summit- March 12th at Soaring Eagle Casino- See Megan if you would like to attend. Need members for different areas: Political Action Team, Treasurer, Health care. o Evaluation Committee- Team has met and brainstormed 4 of the 5 areas to be addressed in new evaluations. What are the minimum standards required for a new employee? What is the 5 point range and what does it mean? Student growth attached to evaluation process. Programs – Charlotte Danielson has a tool to possible use to create our evaluation. An online company is invited to come and meet with team to develop a draft version to then present as an option to evaluation team, which then may be presented to AFT members if it is something that may work o Nominations- This is a nomination year. Please be specific including Name-Position nominated forPlease email between Now and April meetingEmail Jill Braun or Megan if you are interested in a list of previous union leadersCheryl nominated Bob Hawke for treasurer o SVSU Partnership Tuition Program- SISD acquires SVSU credits as teachers host a SVSU student (student teacher 1 credit, field work 1/4th credit) 1999 this program began Credits expire after a certain time (3 years) —We need to develop policies for: who gets to use the credits, how many credits each can use (we will be looking at other districts and how they word this policy and develop guidelines)SISD currently has 13 credits*Current Issue: McGivney is the financial flow through for this facility but they are not a part of the SISD or AFT. This facility’s credits went to the SISD bank and employees from this building have used credit-Megan is looking into this issueThis will not be in our contract. o Negotiations- Team: Megan, Cheryl, Jeff Guza (transition center) David Rose (Atkins/Millet), Robin Myers (Millet), Andrea Loshaw (Hartley)Team met 3-1-11. Team will be reviewing the wording for prep time in contract of other districts is in the works – healthcare topics. Goal- April have a draft of the contract to present to administration• Vice-President’s Report o Building ReportsMillet- Swim Training and concerns of having to sign a completion form Megan and Cheryl met with Janet and the form is just saying the employee completed the annual training. Employee will not be held responsible to lifeguard standards. Pool training will now be an annual training.Hartley- Part time (as needed) and half time (93 days) employees. Issues: Who is getting the extra jobs/days? What are the policies for getting the jobs? (Seniority or knowledge/quality of work) Policies for communication between employees also needs to be addressedSocial Committee- Saturday, March 19th 6:00 pm members are invited to attend a Euchre card game at Cheryl’s home: 4365 Persimmon Saginaw phone 793 9649 o Greenhouse Center of Hope- Pharmacy located near St. Mary’s, which collects and redistributes medications. This is run by a licensed pharmacist.
